How to clean your toilet ?

On average, a person goes to the toilet four to seven times a day. Multiplied by the number of people in the household, that’s a lot of time spent on the toilet!

If they are not cleaned, or not cleaned properly, toilets can become a real breeding ground for germs and bacteria. However, there are a few tips on how to keep your toilet clean on a daily basis.

BRUSHING THE TOILET BOWL

The first thing you need to know is that toilets are cleaned every day. To prevent dirt from sticking to the bowl, you simply use your toilet brush and scrub. It seems necessary to clean the toilet brush regularly, which can be done by soaking it in Hygiene + Purifier diluted in water.

CLEANING THE TOILET SEAT

To keep your toilet clean, you should also clean the seat once a week. Wipe the seat (inside and outside), the toilet seat and the flush valve with a sponge and a little Bathroom cleaner.

For the sake of hygiene, it is better to start with the flush, which is usually less dirty than the seat!

DESCALING THE TOILET

We promise you won’t be forced to scrub the sides of the toilet bowl with your little fingers… To clean them, apply a Pinewood Toilet cleaner for descaling properties and leave it on for a few minutes. Afterwards, the toilet brush should be used again to scrub. Then flush the toilet.

Similarly, if you notice orange, brown or black streaks on the walls of the bowl, this is probably due to limescale. Simply choose a toilet care product that both cleans and descales, such as pinewood toilet cleaner.

To prevent the appearance of tartar, to make your toilet enamel shine and to keep a good smell, install a block of toilet gel in your toilet.

DON’T NEGLECT THE FLOOR AND DOOR HANDLES

Don’t think that just because your toilet is cleaned that the cleaning stops there! Yes, germs are everywhere in the room. Especially if you don’t put the toilet seat down before flushing!

The toilet is therefore cleaned with a hoover and a mop. For this particular room, we recommend cleaning with Hygiene + Purifier.

Last but not least, don’t forget to clean the door handle, for those who don’t wash their hands before leaving the toilet (or those who don’t have a hand wash station).

CAN I USE BLEACH AND WHITE VINEGAR TO CLEAN MY TOILET?

Beware of explosive mixtures! Do not mix sanitary products, and even less bleach and white vinegar!

Bleach is far from being mandatory to properly clean and disinfect toilets. In fact, according to a study published in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine in 2015, using bleach as a household cleaner increases the risk of ENT and respiratory infections in children!

White vinegar, on the other hand, is composed of acetic acid. This is a corrosive component, which can sometimes attack surfaces (such as marble or old porcelain). It is also harmful to health, as its vapours are irritating to the respiratory tract and eyes.

HOW TO UNCLOG A TOILET EASILY?

Are your toilets clogged, or do you notice that the toilet flushes slowly? You will have to unblock your pipes. However, be careful with the products you use, which can be too aggressive, especially if you have a septic tank.

Etamine du Lys Drain cleaner does not contain caustic soda. It works biologically with enzymes, prevents clogging and avoids bad odours. For maintenance and prevention, we recommend the Biological Activator. This sanitary product ensures the optimal functioning of the toilet by activating the natural process of degradation of matter.
